Chocolate Buttermilk Cake

Instructions

Cake
Sift dry ingredients together into mixing bowl. Add shortening (or butter/ margarine) and 2/3 cup of Friendship Buttermilk. Beat 2 minutes on medium speed of mixer or 300 vigorous strokes by hand. Add rest of buttermilk and eggs. Beat 2 more minutes. Pour into greased wax paper-lined pans and bake at 350° F. for 30 minutes. Cool on a rack, fill and frost as desired.

(Yields 10 to 12 servings).

Chocolate Frosting
Combine in bowl and mix until well blended
Add confectioner’s sugar gradually and beat until smooth

Fills and frosts two 8-inch cake layers.

1 ¾ cups sifted cake flour
1 ½ cups sugar
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
½ cup cocoa
½ cup soft shortening or butter/margarine
1 cup Friendship® Buttermilk
2 eggs, unbeaten
 
Chocolate Frosting
1/3 cup Friendship® Sour Cream
2 ounces baking cocoa
1 teaspoon vanilla
¼ teaspoon salt
1 ½ cups sifted confectioner’s sugar
